The Government of the Azores, in partnership with the Casa dos Açores of Winnipeg, Canada, promotes the 6th International Congress on the Feast of the Holy Ghost to be held June 11-15.
The Feast of the Holy Ghost is one of the most relevant religious and cultural traditions of the Azores which has contributed to the strengthening of relations between the Azores and its diaspora.
Held biannually, the event gathers researchers from the Azorean communities in Brazil, Bermuda, USA and Canada and includes members of the Casa dos Açores in Quebec, Ontario and Winnipeg. Previous editions of the congress were held in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), California (USA) and twice on Terceira island, Azores.
The congress will focus on the evolution of the Holy Ghost Festival tradition from past to present, its history and evolution in the Azores and in the various countries where Azorean communities reside.
Held for the first time in Canada, the event aims to contributing to the knowledge and preservation of this cultural and religious tradition as one of the most relevant manifestation of Azorean identity.
Participants of the congress will participate June 14 and 15 in the celebrations of the Feast of the Holy Ghost in Winnipeg.
